Tea Tree Oil Essential for Summer: Help Prevent & Soothe Sunburns

During these hellishly hot months (speaking from New Orleans) its important to have that cure-all skin product for your everyday needs.  You know, that one product that can treat anything from acne to athelete's foot, jock itch to cold sores and so much more!  My husband and I use HALT for literally EVERY skin ailment that afflicts us, but most importantly during summer, we use HALT to ease our sunburns!

There are numerous scientific studies that show the benefits of tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) essential oil for medicinal purposes. There's no wonder why it is one of the most widely used essential oils on the market.  Personally, I have used TTO (tea tree oil) for cuts, blemishes, fungal and bacterial dermal infections and burns. So why is it so beneficial for our skin?  Two key components of TTO are terpinen-4-ol and α-terpineol.  In 2006, a study titled “Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree) Oil: a Review of Antimicrobial and Other Medicinal Properties,” found that tea tree's anti-inflammatory properties are attributed to terpinen-4-ol and α-terpineol, which diminish the production of prostaglandins.  Prostaglandins contribute to the inflammatory response in tissues.  Another study from 2013, titled "A review of applications of tea tree oil in dermatology" found in the  International Journal of Dermatology, found that tea tree offers antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, which help to prevent infection and swelling following a sunburn.

There you have it! There is a TON of evidence as to why tea tree essential oil is the perfect medicinal ingredient for skincare products. But we at Skin Alchemy went even further and combined fast-acting avocado oil, healing babassu oil and conditioning vitamin E with powerful tea tree to give you HALT, my favorite cure-all skin product :)
